Apple Set to Launch Second-Generation AirTag in 2025 with Enhanced Tracking Features

Apple is set to unveil a second-generation AirTag next year, as reported by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman.

In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman reveals that starting in 2025, Apple plans to roll out a series of updates, which will include M4 versions of the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air, an upgraded iPhone SE, refreshed 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air models, and the much-anticipated second-generation AirTag. However, details about the new item tracker remain under wraps.

Earlier this year, Gurman indicated that Apple had initiated trial manufacturing runs for the new AirTag with partners in Asia. The upcoming version is expected to enhance location tracking capabilities and incorporate a new Apple-designed U-series chip, which will improve Precision Finding features.

In January, Gurman noted that Apple’s retail store back rooms and device storage warehouses were overflowing with existing AirTags, which contributed to the decision to delay the launch of the new version until 2025.

The original AirTag was launched in 2021 and has gained popularity as a small tracking device that helps users locate their belongings using Bluetooth technology and Apple’s Find My network. Users can easily attach AirTags to items such as keys or bags and track their locations through the Find My app on their Apple devices, including iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

With the introduction of the second-generation AirTag, Apple aims to build on the success of its predecessor and further enhance the user experience in tracking personal items.
