Apple’s digital car keys, accessible through the Wallet app, are set to launch soon for select vehicles from Volvo, Audi, and Polestar.
This exciting development comes from code changes identified within the backend of Apple’s Wallet app. According to Eric Slivka at MacRumors, the car key functionality enables users to unlock, lock, or start their vehicles using an iPhone or Apple Watch equipped with NFC capabilities. This can be done simply by holding the device near the vehicle’s NFC reader. It’s important to note that the availability of car key features may differ based on the manufacturer and model of the vehicle. Apple first introduced digital car key support in 2022, and since then, several car brands, including BMW, BYD, Hyundai/Genesis/Kia, Lotus, Mercedes-Benz, and RAM, have adopted this innovative feature. As Apple continues to expand its digital car key capabilities, more drivers can look forward to a seamless and convenient way to access their vehicles.
