Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has announced that the tech giant plans to launch its own smart home camera in 2026, marking its first venture into direct competition with third-party HomeKit cameras, such as the Eve Indoor Cam.
Market Expectations
The upcoming IP camera is projected to achieve annual shipments in the tens of millions, signaling Apple’s ambition for it to become a significant accessory within its expansive product lineup. Kuo notes that the integration of Siri and advanced Apple Intelligence features will be key selling points for Appleās camera.
Strategic Moves in Smart Home Space
For some time now, there have been whispers about Apple’s intention to take a more serious approach to the smart home market, including ongoing rumors of the company developing its own smart home accessories. However, it remains uncertain what distinctive functionalities Apple might introduce with its first-party camera that would set it apart from existing integrations with other manufacturers via the Home app. Speculation suggests that a powerful embedded Apple silicon chip could allow for enhanced Apple Intelligence features not available in competitor cameras.
Upcoming Innovations
Apple’s initial major foray into the smart home arena will be with a new smart display device, expected to launch sometime next year. This device will combine elements of a HomePod-like speaker with a compact, square touchscreen, providing a visual user interface. It is anticipated that this smart display will compete with products like the Echo Show, with a primary focus on kitchen use for displaying timers and recipes.
Future Developments
Looking ahead, reports indicate that Apple is also developing a more advanced display that will feature an articulated robotic arm, allowing the screen to tilt and pan in order to follow users around the room. This innovative design suggests that Apple is committed to creating dynamic and user-friendly smart home experiences.
