Apple has officially released iOS 18.1 and macOS 15.1, introducing the first set of Apple Intelligence tools. Currently, these features are only available in English. While the company previously announced plans to expand language support in 2025, new information has emerged regarding the timeline for these additions.
Expanded Language Support Coming Soon
According to a recent press release from Apple, support for additional languages in Apple Intelligence will be rolled out in April 2025. At present, the technology only functions in US English. However, with the upcoming iOS 18.2, which is currently in beta, support will be expanded to include localized English from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK. This update is anticipated to launch in December.
In April, Apple Intelligence will broaden its capabilities to include Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, and other languages. This expansion will arrive through a free software update, likely with iOS 18.4.
Key Features of iOS 18.1 and macOS 15.1
With the launch of iOS 18.1 and macOS 15.1, users can now access a variety of Apple Intelligence features, including Writing Tools that assist with text modification and proofreading, as well as text summarization and notification management. Additionally, the updates introduce a Clean Up feature in the Photos app, enhancing user experience.
Looking Ahead: iOS 18.2 and macOS 15.2
Upcoming versions, iOS 18.2 and macOS 15.2, are set to introduce even more Apple Intelligence features, such as Image Playgrounds, Genmoji, and ChatGPT integration. These enhancements are expected to take user interaction and content creation to the next level.
Device Compatibility
It is important to note that Apple Intelligence features require compatible hardware. Users will need an iPhone 15 Pro or later, or Macs and iPads equipped with the M1 chip or later. The newly released iPad mini with the A17 Pro chip is also compatible with these advanced AI tools.
