Apple today seeded the first beta of iOS 8.3 to registered developers for testing purposes, just a week after seeding the fifth beta of iOS 8.2, which is also currently in testing.
The beta, build number 12F5027d, also includes Xcode 6.3 beta with Swift 1.2. It is not clear at this time what the iOS 8.3 beta introduces, but it likely includes several bug fixes. As a .1 update, it may also introduce new features.
Xcode 6.3, included with the beta, introduces a new version of the Swift language. According to Apple’s release notes, Swift 1.2 includes “a number of noteworthy changes” to the language. Xcode 6.3 also includes enhancements to ease interoperability between Swift and Objective-C code.

New Features in iOS 8.3:

Based on our testing, iOS 8.3 appears to remove the “beta” label from iCloud Photo Library and it offers new CarPlay features, in the form of wireless connectivity. The CarPlay setting in the image below is located in the General section of the Settings app, below Siri, Spotlight Search, and Handoff & Suggested Apps. Currently, iPhones are only able to connect to CarPlay via the Lightning port. iOS 8.3 introduces a new emoji picker, much like OS X 10.10.3, released to developers last week. The new emoji picker organizes emoji into categories in a scrollable list, but it does not appear to include placeholders for new emoji or an option for selecting new skin tones.
There’s also support for Google two-step verification when logging into and adding Google accounts on iOS, removing some of the need for app specific passwords.
According to the iOS 8.3 release notes, Apple Pay may be available in China in the near future. iOS 8.3 introduces support for the China UnionPay network as previously rumored.
Another minor iOS 8.3 change is in Passbook, which now divides Apple Pay credit/debit cards and other cards into sections labeled “Apple Pay” and “Passes.”

Apple today seeded the fourth beta of iOS 8.2 to developers, nearly a month after seeding the third beta and more than two months after releasing the first iOS 8.2 beta.

The beta, build 12D5461b, is available immediately to registered developers as an over-the-air update and it can also be downloaded from the iOS Developer Center. Today’s update also includes Xcode 6.2 beta 4 with WatchKit.
iOS 8.2 includes the WatchKit SDK, allowing developers to create apps, Glances, and notifications for Apple’s upcoming wearable device ahead of its 2015 launch. The first iOS 8.2 beta, with WatchKit SDK and developer documentation, revealed several new details about the Apple Watch, including its heavy reliance on the iPhone and the different types of content developers can create for the device.
The iOS 8.2 update has been widely expected to be released in conjunction with the launch of the Apple Watch and the fourth iOS 8.2 beta adds new evidence to support that theory.
In the Bluetooth section of the Settings menu on the iPhone, there’s now a mention of the Apple Watch, advising users to open the “Apple Watch app” to pair an iPhone with an Apple Watch. The Apple Watch iPhone app will likely be used to allow Apple Watch wearers to control settings on the device from their iPhones.

Apple today seeded a fourth beta of OS X 10.10.2 Yosemite to developers, nearly four weeks after the previous beta release.
The new beta, build 14C94b, is available through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store and through the Mac Dev Center.
Apple continues to ask developers to focus their testing on Wi-Fi, Mail, and VoiceOver. Wi-Fi in particular has been an issue for some OS X Yosemite users since the operating system’s October launch, and OS X 10.10.1 released in November failed to resolve all of those problems.

Apple today seeded the third beta of OS X 10.10.2 Yosemite to developers, just over two weeks after seeing the second 10.10.2 beta and over a month after releasing OS X 10.10.1 to the public.
Like OS X 10.10.1, as a minor update, OS X 10.10.2 is likely to bring bug fixes and performance improvements to the operating system. OS X 10.10.1 introduced several reliability enhancements, including improvements to Wi-Fi, but many users have still been reporting issues with Wi-Fi stability in Yosemite.
In the release notes for the third 10.10.2 beta, Apple asks developers to focus on Wi-Fi, indicating the update may fix some of the lingering Wi-Fi problems. Apple also asks developers to focus on Mail and VoiceOver.

Apple today seeded the first beta of OS X 10.10.2 Yosemite to developers, just three days after releasing OS X 10.10.1 to the public.

The new beta, build 14C68k, is available through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store and should be available in the Mac Dev Center soon. The beta also includes Safari 8.0.2 and an update to the Mail app (version 8.2).
Beware: It appears that OS X 10.10.2 is causing the latest version of Google’s Chrome browser to crash. Retina iMac owners are also seeing display issues with the beta.

Apple today announced that its set of WatchKit development tools are now available for developers, allowing them to begin creating apps and software for the company’s upcoming Apple Watch.
WatchKit is being released as part of the iOS 8.2 and Xcode 6.2 beta, both of which have been made available to developers today.
Both the iOS 8.2 Beta with WatchKit and the Xcode 6.2 beta can be downloaded from Apple’s developer site, which also has Apple Watch development resources for developers. WatchKit can currently be used to create Glances, actionable notifications, and Apple Watch apps that are powered by the iPhone. Many Apple Watch apps will be driven by code that runs on the iPhone, with a UI that displays content on the watch itself. According to Apple, “fully native” Apple Watch apps can be created “later next year.”
As described by Apple, actionable notifications are notifications that allow users to take an action or respond directly from their wrists with the Apple Watch, turning off the lights when they’ve left the house, for example, or accessing flight information at an airport. Glances are somewhat simpler, aiming to give users quick information at a glance like news, weather, sports scores, and more.

In its press release, Apple highlights several developers who have already begun working with WatchKit, giving some additional insight into how the WatchKit tools can be used. The ESPN app for Apple Watch delivers live scores and information on teams, according to ESPN VP John Kosner, and it offers snapshots of live games through Glances and alerts on score changes through actionable notifications.
Instagram has used WatchKit to develop actionable notifications that let users instantly like a photo or respond with an emoji, plus there’s an Instagram news and watch list to let users see their friends favorite photos and get an overview of likes and comments. American Airlines has used Apple Watch to create pre-trip notifications, updates for gate changes, gate connection information, and alerts when a flight begins boarding, all of which can be accessed directly from the wrist.
In addition to sharing these use cases for the Apple Watch, Apple has also created a dedicated Apple Watch site for developers, outlining the difference between full apps, Glances, and actionable notifications, offering download links to the iOS 8.2 beta with WatchKit SDK, and providing design guidelines and templates.

Apple on Friday issued to developers a golden master build of the upcoming Xcode 6.1.1 update, bringing bug fixes for Xcode Server, the Swift programming language and Interface Builder, among others. The Xcode 6.1.1 GM, labeled build 6A2006, concentrates on fixing bugs from the most recent Xcode 6.1 release, including common SourceKit crashes in Swift and general issues with Xcode Server.
Specifically, Apple resolved multiple issues causing crash events in Swift, as well as other coding bugs, while patching permission problems, crashes and SSH handling in Xcode Server. The GM also addresses an issue in Interface Builder that would prevent opening or compiling IB documents containing a slash in its image name.
Finally, the OCUnit and SenTestingKit framework were deprecated with Xcode 6.1.1 and will be completely removed from the software in a future release. Developers are encouraged to migrate to XCTest for Xcode testing.
Alongside Xcode 6.1.1, Apple released Command Line Tools Packages for OS X 10.9 Mavericks and OS X 10.10 Yosemite, enabling UNIX-style development from Terminal.
Developers can access the Xcode 6.1.1 GM — a 2.5GB download — and the Command Line Tools Package via Apple’s developer portal.

Apple on Thursday pushed out a batch of new Safari builds for developers covering OS X 10.10 Yosemite, OS X 10.9 Mavericks and OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. Safari betas 8.0.1, 7.1.1 and 6.2.1 bring a few new areas of focus for their corresponding Mac operating systems, being Yosemite, Mavericks and Mountain Lion, respectively. For OS X Yosemite, Apple asks developers to test Safari’s cross-device history syncing capabilities and importing usernames and passwords from Firefox. Other areas of interest for all Safari builds include WebGL graphics on Retina displays, extension compatibility, password AutoFill across multiple devices and general website compatibility. Apple notes the most recent beta builds are not fully localized and require current maintenance updates for run correctly.

Apple today seeded the first beta of an upcoming OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite update to developers, nearly three weeks after first releasing OS X Yosemite to the public.

The new beta, build 14B17, is available through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store and through the Mac Dev Center.
While it is unclear what improvements the first update to OS X Yosemite will bring, there are several bugs in the operating system including a major Wi-Fi issue that has caused connection problems for a number of users.
Apple is asking developers to focus on Wi-Fi, Exchange accounts in Mail, and the Notification Center.

Following this afternoon’s release of the first OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 beta, Apple has seeded the first iOS 8.1.1 beta to developers. The iOS 8.1.1 beta comes two weeks after the release of iOS 8.1, which included support for Apple Pay, SMS Forwarding, and more.

The beta, build 12B432, is available through the iOS Developer Center. Apple has also released a new Apple TV beta.
According to Apple’s release notes, iOS 8.1.1 includes bug fixes and increased stability and performance improvements for both the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4s, two of the older devices that support the operating system.

As a minor update , iOS 8.1.1 includes fixes for several bugs, but major new features rumored for iOS 8, like improvements to Maps and split-screen multitasking for the iPad, will be reserved for major iOS 8 updates that are also in development.
